Launceston Trail Info
There are two main riding areas in Launceston. These are Kate Reed and Trevallyn Reserves.
Only 45 minutes to the south east of Launceston are some great trails in the foothills of Ben Lomond National Park. If you have a spare afternoon, these trails are well worth the effort, although they are difficult to find as they are unmarked.

Kate Reed ReserveKate Reed has over 20 km of trail singletrack, with some great berm trails. All trails are now signposted.
Trails range from beginners through to intermediate. Kate Reed Reserve is about 5 minute drive south from the Launceston CBD or a 20 minute ride up a gentle road known as Westbury Rd. It is also home to Silverdome and is Tassie's main Cycling Velodrome. |
Trevallyn ReserveTrevallyn Reserve is a 5 minute drive west from Launceston's CBD and a UP hill 20 minute ride. It's well worth the ride up, as your ride down back into the CBD, when you have finished exploring Trevallyn is a ripper.
Trevallyn also has walking and horse riding trails, some are mixed use and others that are specific to the different activities. Trails to Trevallyn Dam are walking only! Trails range from beginner through to intermediate. Mos trails are signposted. |

There are 2 main access points and it all depends how you want to finish. We like riding up into the reserve via The Gorge Rd access point. This allows you to finish your ride in 'downhill mode' and even continue to roll back into the CBD via Gorge Rd OR via the road and walking footpath via the Cataract Gorge (preferred option!) This means you'll have to ride up from the CBD (20 minutes ish!) or get a self-shuttle. Your call. 1. Entry via Gorge Rd. Entry on right side of road at top of hill. Map at this link 2. Corner of Duck Reach Rd and Reatta Rd, Trevallyn. Map at this link Trail Head Services Nil at trail head but shops only 5 - 10 minutes ride away. ie. Trevallyn with a great cafe and bakery!
